چکیده
Brain-inspired computing (a.k.a. neuro-inspired computing) A biologically inspired approach to build processors, devices, and computing models for applications including adaptive control, machine learning, and cognitive radio. Similarities with biological signal processing include architectural, such as distributed, representational, such as analog or spiking, or algorithmic, such as adaptation.

Photonic spike processing: ultrafast laser neurons and an integrated photonic network
The marriage of two vibrant fields—photonics and neuromorphic processing—is fundamentally enabled by the strong analogies within the underlying physics between the dynamics of biological neurons and lasers, both of which can be understood within the framework of nonlinear dynamical systems theory. Whereas neuromorphic engineering exploits the biophysics of neuronal computation algorithms to pro...
متن کاملForeword At the Interface of Photonics and Neuroscience
―Neuromorphic Photonics,‖ by Paul R. Prucnal and Bhavin J. Shastri (CRC Press/Taylor & Francis, 2017), is a book about photonic neural networks, which enjoy a number of unusual and salutary features. They can be highly interconnected and robust in the presence of noise. The number of interconnections among spike-processing elements can be scaled indefinitely, with large fan-out, by using wavele...
متن کاملA light-stimulated neuromorphic device based on graphene hybrid phototransistor
Neuromorphic chip refers to an unconventional computing architecture that is modelled on biological brains. It is ideally suited for processing sensory data for intelligence computing, decision-making or context cognition. Despite rapid development, conventional artificial synapses exhibit poor connection flexibility and require separate data acquisition circuitry, resulting in limited function...
متن کاملInvited Talk: Neuromorphic Computing Principles, Achievements, and Potentials
Neural networks have recently taken the field of machine learning by storm. Their success rests upon the availability of high performance computing hardware which allows to train very wide and deep networks. Traditional neural networks have very limited biological realism. Recent work on more brain-like hardware architectures has led to first large-scale implementations of neuromorphic computin...
متن کاملRecent progress in semiconductor excitable lasers for photonic spike processing
Recently, there has been tremendous interest in excitable optoelectronic devices and in particular excitable semiconductor lasers that could potentially enable unconventional processing approaches beyond conventional binary-logic-based approaches. In parallel, there has been renewed investigation of non-von Neumann architectures driven in part by incipient limitations in aspects of Moore’s law....
